A Look At How Oribe Canales’ Legacy Was Honored At The 2019 Atelier

About 850 salon professionals made their way to New Orleans on October 21 for the 2019 Oribe Atelier program, a dynamic, one-day event that dove into styling, cutting and color education through live demonstrations and an exclusive hands-on workshop. This year’s Atelier was extra special, paying tribute to Co-Founder Oribe Canales, who passed away at the age of 62 in December of 2018.

For the live demonstrations, 10 Oribe artists took the stage and recreated looks that paid homage to Oribe’s extensive body of work through the years, from his early career in the ’80s to his most recent editorial work. The artists and educators included in the onstage segments included:

  • James Pecis

  • Kien Hoang

  • Coby Alcantar

  • Ronnie Stam

  • Stacey Ciceron

  • Ashley Brecken

  • Mandee Tauber

  • Manny Hernandez

  • Christian Ceja-Compin

  • Adam Livermore

Backstage, all Oribe educators prepped for the live demonstrations and assisted where needed in getting the hair and wigs ready:

For the hands-on portion, 200 stylists and salon owners participated, recreating the look Adam Livermore styled onstage—on live models:

Goldwell then took the stage for their segment, showing off five models rocking vibrantly colored hair:

Then, as an ode to New Orleans (the host city of the 2019 Oribe Atelier), an energizing drum line/brass band performed alongside colorfully-dressed dancers to close out a day of education and remembrance:
