JPMS Style Trip: Watch The First Episode Below!
John Paul Mitchell Systems just launched Style Trip, a new webisode series that invites viewers inside real salons and communities across the country to explore the craft of hairdressing. Sitting near the shores of Waikiki Beach, BTC was on location at Hawaii Seminar 2019 to celebrate the premiere episode alongside Angus Mitchell, Colin Caruso, Heather Ka’anoi and David Adams. Here’s what went down.

“There is no better way to connect to a community than to explore it with the people that make it beautiful,” shares Colin Caruso, Style Trip’s Host and Artistic Director of Professional Hair Color. Community, craft and inspiration make up the heart of this project. “People want you to fall in love with their communities so much. They bring you to the best restaurants and places—the hairdresser knows everybody.”

BTC celebrated the premiere with the JPMS team at the Hawaii Seminar in Oahu.

Episode One: Hawaii with Angus Mitchell
JPMS Co-Owner and Paul Mitchell’s son, Angus Mitchell, guided Colin and Heather on their first-ever Style Trip. “I wanted them to get to know Paul and get inspired,” says Angus. “There’s something magical about this island—you go to the Big Island and realize there’s fifty shades of green and the depths to color…the way the sun rises and the turquoise of the water rests on the sand, and the sand gives it a blonde color. I look to Colin and say, ‘Can you do that on hair?’ We get inspired and feed off of each other.”

Where’s The Next Style Trip?
So, what can you expect in following episodes? From scenic Oahu to the relaxing shores of Northern California, Style Trip travels around to capture masterful stylists in action, showcase how hairdressers draw inspiration from their community and how these surroundings fuel their creativity.

In Episode Two, watch longtime JPMS stylist and salon owner David Adams take Colin and Heather throughout the surfer community of the ultimate coastal destination, Santa Cruz, Calif. David shares his motivation to participate in the project, “It’s what inspires us, what gets us to where we are now, what our beginnings were…the collaboration. That’s one of things that drove us to take our journey, our style trip.”

“We get to see and celebrate individual identities within Paul Mitchell, the brand,” adds Artistic Director and Style Trip Guest Artist Heather Ka’anoi. “We get to see how David customizes his business and how it works for his territory and how other territories do other things, but all supported by JPMS.”
