Breaking News: 2018 Wella Professionals International TrendVision Winners Announced

The 2018 Wella Professionals International TrendVision contest took a totally new approach this year, offering 76 artists from 43 countries the chance to compete in a different kind of hair event. Held in Lisbon, Portugal, BTC was there for it all—from backstage prep to mentors working with competitors to the models’ parade and big show—so keep reading to see how TrendVision has changed and who took home the awards!

A shift from traditional hair competitions, the new concept is #MyCreativeRetreat—giving winning artists from across the globe the chance to learn from Wella Top Artists and collaborate on a collection from concept to creation, all while digitally chronicling the experience.

Lisbon offered a fantastic setting for artistic inspiration—glazed ceramic tile called “azulejos” stud the facades of centuries-old buildings and the #MyCreativeRetreat venue is on the Terreiro do Paço, one of the largest squares in Europe. Hosted by Patrick Cameron, it was a creative and beautiful event in a gorgeous historic space.

Here’s a look at competitors’ three-day experience:

• Learn about industry trends from people like Sarah Potempa (@sarahpotempa), an editorial stylist with 164k followers who shared Instagram tips, and the masterful Eugene Souleiman (@eugenesouleiman), who showcased three of his most recent Fashion Week looks. (Bonus: All of the education presented to competitors is available on the Wella Education Platform!)
• Work with Wella Top Artists such as Sonya Dove (@sonyadove), Renya Xydis (@renyaxydis) and Matthias Herzberg (@chimoer).
• Participate in three challenges, from creating the concept to executing the look, that result in a five-model collection created by the 10-person team.

The 2018 International TrendVision Awards

Wella awarded its Creative Vision and Color Vision prizes based on work each competitor submitted at his or her country’s national TrendVision event (get the scoop on the U.S. event by clicking here). Five additional prizes were also awarded based on work competitors’ did on location at #MyCreativeRetreat.

Creative Vision:

Showcase the highest hair craftsmanship and most creative interpretation, with a significant change to the model’s hair and an editorial edge, awarded for work carried out at the competitor’s national TrendVision event.
