How-To: S-Curve Beach Waves

When you’re all about being sexy, when you’re headquartered in Southern California and when your new collection is called “California Dreaming,” where do you go to shoot? The beach, of course!  But not just any beach. The Sexy Hair team wound up at one of the most fabulous spots in Malibu to shoot its 2016 California Dreaming Collection—the beachfront home of actress Jane Seymour!

“We really wanted to capture the spirit of L.A.,” explains Sexy Hair Vice President of Marketing and Education, Jennifer Weiderman. “So this location was perfect!”

Sexy Hair Creative Director, Rafe Hardy conceived of a collection of haircuts—short, medium and long—for women, plus two men’s cuts. Then he challenged team members Miguel Marrero and Nadirah Volpe to submit finishing options for each cut. From there, the group fine-tuned the looks that would ultimately be included, adding a group of upstyles created by Sexy Hair’s Meaghan Masterson. “Each haircut was finished three ways,” says Jennifer, “Casual, trendy and red carpet.” The new collection, launching in January of 2016, will be supported by lots of Sexy Hair education throughout the year.

Many of the techniques used in the collection will be taught by Sexy Hair educators next year. This S-Curve Beach Wave is similar to some of those techniques. Nadirah provides a mini-demo:

    1

Mist hair with Smooth Sexy Hair Smooth & Seal for thermal protection. Isolate a wide section of hair and place the iron toward the top of the section. Push the section upward until it bends then lock the bend in place by tapping the iron several times.

Place the iron a bit further down the strand, bend the hair in the opposite direction and tap to lock in the shape.

Once the entire head has been waved, the S-Curves can be gently brushed or left intact for a fingerwave-meets-beach-wave result. Finish with Sexy Hair Spray and Play.
