HOW-TO STEPS

    1

Section hair from temple to temple.

    2

Create a vertical parting, elevate approximately 90 degrees, and cut to the desired length. Cut the first guide short enough to remove weight and create a strong head shape. Pivot off the first parting with a slight diagonal parting and over direct to the first guide.

    3

Continue taking diagonal partings and over-directing to the first guide. Alter the degree of over-direction based on the density, hair texture, and overall desired end result. At this stage, stop over-directing any remaining partings. Repeat the process on the opposite side.

    4

Section the fringe. Take a diagonal section that curves across the top of the head. Cut a curved fringe. Elevate the parting to create a graduated, curved line.

    5

Continue working through the top area. This area will not connect to the fringe area but to the back area. Take a diagonal parting that runs parallel to the fringe section. Elevate parting at approximately 90 degrees to remove excess length and weight.

    6

Continue working back toward the crown area, taking curved partings across the head. Elevate the partings at approximately 90 degrees. Take vertical partings that extend from the crown to the nape to connect the crown and back areas.

    7

Take larger vertical partings through the side areas, then elevate and visually connect the side areas. Use a pointing and chipping technique to soften the edges. Cross-check through the head.
