HOW-TO STEPS

1

Start by taking a large section from ear to ear and clip the hair away at the crown of the head—this section will be used later to create the rope braid.

2

Then, secure the bottom section into a low ponytail at the nape and tie off with an elastic. This will be the foundation and create a base for securing the style into place. Apply Kenra Professional Dry Oil Control Spray for hold.

Pro Tip: Apply clip-in extensions at the nape to build a stronger foundation, while also creating additional length and volume.

3

Gently backcomb the hair in the low ponytail and apply Kenra Dry Volume Burst 3 to build touchable texture. Then, roll into a bun and secure at the base with bobby pins.

4

Release the top section and separate into two smaller sections at the crown. Lightly mist Kenra Dry Oil Control Spray to create smoothness and shine while building a strong texture for twisting the hair.

5

Then, separate each section into separate rope braids. Starting on one side, twist the two sections in the same direction, then wrap the sections over one another in the opposite direction—this will create the rope braid pattern. Continue repeating this wrapping technique until the ends. Repeat on the opposite side.

6

After finishing both rope braids, secure with an elastic.

7

Wrap both rope braids over the crown and around the bun, securing them into place with bobby pins.

Pro Tip: Camouflage bobby pins by sliding them directly into the updo without opening the pins. This will prevent more hair from entering the pin and provide a stronger hold.

Pancake the rope braids, pinching and pulling to expand and add fullness. Then, finish by applying Dry Oil Control Spray to set the style and tame flyaways.
