Whether you’ve seen her perform live, watched her kill it in “A Star Is Born” or caught her 2019 Grammy Awards performance, there’s no denying that Lady Gaga is a true rock star. And that was the theme of the night for the singer/actress, who donned a silver, fitted Cèline gown and textured, lived-in waves courtesy of celeb stylist Frederic Aspiras (@fredericaspiras). Scroll on to get the deets behind this edgy red carpet look!

Inspiration: “Inspired by the rock star culture and her character Ally from the movie ‘A Star Is Born,’ we opted for a more lived-in look with lots of texture while keeping the hair healthy and soft,” he shares. “I also experimented with two types of waves to give a more signature look.”

HOW-TO STEPS

1

Wash the hair with Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo and Conditioner to prevent damage and replenish moisture, leaving the hair healthy and shiny.

2

On damp, towel-dried hair, apply Joico Defy Damage Protective Shield from the roots to the ends to protect the hair against mechanical and thermal damage.

3

Use the ghd detangling comb to distribute the product throughout, then divide the hair into four sections.

4

Apply Joico Blonde Life Brilliant Tone Violet Foam Styler to each section, then blow-dry the hair downwards using the ghd air® hairdryer and ghd paddle brush, leaving minimal volume at the roots.

5

Then, create two types of waves/curls by using two different irons. Use the ghd platinum+ styler to create wide flat “S” waves throughout and use the ghd curve® soft curl iron to “curl and slide” the hair. “The two textures of waves/curls give a more natural, lived-in look,” says Frederic.

6

Spray Joico Body Shake throughout the hair while shaking out the waves with your fingers.

7

Use the ghd air® hairdryer on the cold temp and low setting to move and open the waves more while closing the hair cuticles, making the hair shiny.

8

Finish by applying Joico Blonde Life Brilliant Glow Brightening Oil on the ends, leaving the rest of the hair as is to give it more of a textured, lived-in look.
