How-To: Liquid Chignon

close formula

Nothing says luxury like a sleek, perfect chignon, so we are loving Lily Aldridge’s Met Gala look. The combination of the glossy hair and futuristic gold eyebrows is perfection! Celebrity hairstylist Bryce Scarlett shared that he wanted to create a slick, glossy, liquid-like look on Lily (a Victoria’s Secret Angel!). Inspired by photographer Steven Klein, Bryce went with this pulled-black look to add toughness to the feminine, slinky Michael Kors dress she wore. Here’s the how-to using the MarulaOil Styling Collection!

HOW-TO STEPS

1

Saturate the hair with water and make a deep side part before coating the hair from root to end with “a lot” (Bryce’s words!) of MarulaOil Rare Oil 3-in-1 Styling Cream to keep strands slick and sleek.

2

Use the MarulaOil Detangling Brush to brush the product further into the hair, then pull the hair into a tight ponytail at the nape.

3

Once secure, dip the ponytail in a glass of water and run MarulaOil Rare Treatmentthroughout the ponytail.

Pro Tip: This is Bryce’s secret to “shrinking” the hair for tight updos, especially on gals with thick, full hair like Lily.

4

Wrap the hair around your finger and pile it into a liquid-like shape (or bun) and pin into place.

5

Complete the look by spraying MarulaOil Rare Oil Perfecting Hairspray all over to hold the style in place.

Pro Tip: Bryce sprayed a clean mascara spoolie with the hairspray to target and smooth flyaways around Lily’s hairline and ears, keeping the look super sleek and smooth.
