At the 2019 Golden Globes, there was one trend that dominated the red carpet: undone texture. But we’re not just talking about lived-in waves. We’re loving this textured Dutch braid halo that Emily Blunt rocked at the awards show, so below, we’re breaking down how celebrity stylist Laini Reeves (@laini_reeves) created this stunning style.

Inspiration: “Emily’s Alexander McQueen dress was intricately designed and textured, so we aimed to replicate a textured look in her hair as well,” shared Laini. “The Dutch braid was the final look we landed on because it showed femininity but with an undone texture.”

HOW-TO STEPS

1

Start by applying some leave-in conditioner, then blow-dry using the FHI Heat Platform Nano Lite Pro 1900 Hair Dryer

2

Once the hair is dry, twist strands around your fingers to begin creating texture. Then, use the FHI Heat Platform 1½-inch Professional Curler to make the hair even more wavy.

3

Next, apply texturizing spray and rake your fingers through the hair so the hair can swell up and create thicker texture for a bulkier, fuller braid.

4

Create two separate Dutch braids on either side of the head, then secure them in a halo or horseshoe shape at the back of the head.

5

Finish the style by using the FHI Heat Platform Plus Curve 1-inch Styling Iron to smooth and touch up the tendrils framing the face, then add an embellishment if desired. For this look, Laini entwined vintage jewels from Neil Lane to add a glamorous touch.
