Christina Aguilera’s Asian-Inspired Top Knot

close formula

On Tuesday’s episode of “The Voice,” Christina Aguielera traded in her usual full-bodied waves for something a little sleeker—an Asian-inspired top knot that, paired with her perfect platinum shade, definitely hit all the right notes. The man behind her mane? That would be celeb stylist and International Creative Director for Macadamia Professional, Giannandrea. How’d he get Christina looking so sharp? He shares his how-to below!

HOW-TO STEPS

1

Apply Macadamia Professional Blow Dry Lotion from midlengths to ends of wet hair. Blow-dry 1- to 2-inch sections with a large round brush. Directing the hair in an upward motion, keep the hair straight at the roots and create roundness at the ends.

2

Flat iron the sides and back sections flat. Distribute one pump of Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Oil Treatment through your hands. Run the product through the hair and apply more as needed to create a silky, shiny look.

3

Section a triangle from the hairline on each side of the forehead, with the point at the crown, and secure in a clip for later, as this is the last portion to style.

4

Brush the side and back sections up to the crown, keeping the hair very tight against the scalp. Create a tight, round bun and secure with an elastic, letting the ends fall out in the back. If desired, razor cut the ends for an edgy finish.

5

Unclip the triangle portion on the crown and backcomb with a teasing brush. Brush it backward toward the bun, keeping it sleek and slightly voluminous.

6

Wrap the ends around the base of the bun, covering the elastic and securing tightly with pins.

7

Spray Macadamia Professional Flex Hold Shaping Hairspray to smooth flyaways. Leave out wisps on top of the bun for an effortless appearance.
