Following an 8-month missionary journey, this client of BTC Team Member Jamie Park (@hairbyjpark) reached out after attempting THREE at-home box dye blonding sessions that turned out warmer than planned. Wondering how Jamie transformed brassy, compromised strands into a healthy rooty blonde? Keep scrolling for the detailed step-by-step breakdown of the process!

Total Chair Time: 6 hours (included a long consultation)

Pricing: $255. “I normally charge $85/hour for color corrections. Before anyone has shock over my price, let me tell you my reason,” explains Jamie. “This girl devoted her year to Christ and came home to start navigating the workforce during a pandemic. I charged less than half of the normal rate because she would not have been able to do it otherwise. It was worth it.”

Starting Level

“Her hair was compromised, dry and each zone’s tonal value was uneven,” notes Jamie. So in order to achieve a seamless blend from roots to ends, Jamie says she needed to:

  • Break the bands
  • Treat the weak and damaged hair
  • Lift out any unwanted warmth
  • Blend her natural regrowth for longevity
  • Neutralize the hair not being lightened
  • Adjust the tonal value to achieve a seamless blend

What maintenance is required for this look?

“Upkeep is to see me in six to eight weeks for a root and tone with the possibility of a few foils, added depth and an Olaplex treatment,” shares Jamie. “Her hair’s porosity was different in each zone and we are taking the time to evaluate on a bi-monthly basis.”

FORMULA STEPS

1. Start by foiling the frame in the nape area with Formula A.

2. Then, apply Formula B—a corrective color formula—in Zones 1 and 2 to neutralize any unwanted warmth.

3. Switch to Formula C and continue with the brick lay foil pattern half way up the back of the head. “I continued checking the foils in the back and when they reached a pale yellow, I rinsed immediately and did the same as the front processed,” notes Jamie.

4. Once you reach the crown, paint the front face frame using Formula A, then switch to Formula D and paint the sides and Mohawk sections.

5. Next, apply Formula B in the front the same way you did in the back.

6. Let everything process, then rinse and apply Olaplex No.2 for 10 minutes.

7. Rinse, then while the hair is still damp, apply Formula E throughout the root area in a halo drop effect to add more depth in the crown and back, allowing the face frame to be fully accentuated.

8. Apply Formula F at the roots of the face frame to create a slightly lighter root than the rest of the head and let both root formulas process for 20 minutes.

9. Rinse, then glaze all over with Formula G and process for 20 minutes. “We wanted to stay slightly on the warm vanilla side to keep it natural and compliment her skin tone,” shares Jamie.

10. Rinse again, then apply Eleven Australia 3 Minute Repair Rinse Out Treatment

11. Next, trim the ends, shape the frame and apply UNITE 7SECONDS Detangler and UNITE U Argan Oil to prep for the style.

12. Blow-dry using the Dyson Supersonic™ Hair Dryer Pro Edition, then create loose waves with the BaBylissPro® Nano Titanium 1.25″ Curling Iron.
