2015 has been the year of the bob. But to differentiate an ordinary bob, the color becomes imperative to set her look apart from the crowd. So Tracy Vasquez, owner and stylist at Scotch Bonnet Hair Studio, darkened her client Lily’s base creating the perfect amount of contrast to the deep, side part of the cut. Here’s her rooty-blonde how-to.

COLOR FORMULAS

  • Natural Level:

    6.5 Platinum with 3/4-inch regrowth

  • Formula A (rooty shade):

    30g 6.0 + 15g 6.1 + 20g 7.1 + 10-volume developer

  • Formula B (toner):

    15g G. 10 + 15g G. 11 + 60g No. 1 developer (5-volume)

FORMULA STEPS

1. Tracy does not use foil. Apply Formula A as a touch-up very carefully sweeping it out further in certain areas to create more contrast and eliminate the harsh straight line of demarcation. Drag the color out about 2 to 3 inches around the curve and middle of the head and along the top, closer to the part line. Sweep the color just enough to soften the line.

2. Allow the color to process for 35 minutes, then rinse.

3. Tone all over the platinum base with Formula B, which incorporates a silver and slate shade. Process for 3 to 5 minutes.
