How-To: Master This Red!
How’s your haircolor business? You may be a great colorist, but you want to achieve the next level. Not only do you want to understand color theory better and expand your technical and creative skills, but you also want to increase your business, right?
That’s how Ray Barron felt. The Las Vegas hairdresser set his sights on becoming a Wella Professionals Master Color Expert. Why? Master Color Experts emerge from the 10-day course with enhanced technical ability, amplified creativity and the tools they need to significantly increase their color revenue—graduates have been found to grow their personal revenue up to 30 percent more than non-graduates, according to Wella. “Within one month of graduating, I saw an increase in my business as a salon owner, and in just two months I increased our new color clients by 20 percent,” shares Master Color Expert Ana Comes, creative director of Vôa Salon and Studio in Cranford, N.J.
So Ray was ready to up his skills in a major way—but financial setbacks kept him from attending. Luckily, he had a will, and found a way. Wella’s Hairdressers at Heart offered a scholarship to attend the prestigious certification course, covering the program’s prerequisites (around $3,750), plus $2,000 in travel expenses. When Ray won the scholarship, he said he “bawled his eyes out.” Then, he went to work.
“The program is tough,” he says. “It really opens up your mind and makes you realize that we’re using chemicals—we’re doing things on a molecular level, and we should respect that. But in the end, it’s those little technical details that up your game.”
For the first time ever, Hairdressers at Heart is offering two scholarships in 2017—one to a Wella colorist and one to a Wella school instructor. You can apply until March 6!
