Hey now, hey now—this is what our blonde dreams are made of! ☁️ A few months back, our girl Hilary Duff experimented with some cool blue dimension, thanks to her colorist and Nine Zero One Salon co-owner Nikki Lee (@nikkilee901). But like a lot of our blonde clients, it wasn’t long before Hilary was ready to return to something brighter. So eight hours, a couple rounds of color remover and an extensions collab with Lisa Satorn (@lisasatornhair) later…and she’s back to blonde! Tap the beaker for the formulas and scroll for more deets on the process.

FORMULA STEPS

1. Before Nikki could begin the lightening process, the first step was to remove the faded blue out of Hilary’s hair. Nikki started with TWO rounds of color remover. Here’s a breakdown:

  • 3 scoops of Redken Blonde Dimensions Powder Lightener + 3 oz 20-volume Pro-Oxide Cream Developer + 3 oz deionized water
  • 2 moderate washes
  • “Slow and steady wins the race,” says Nikki. “Since Hilary already had blonde underneath the blue I really just needed to get the blue out, not blast her hair again.”

2. After removing any unwanted blue, Nikki lifted the hairline and face frame with Formula A, and applied Formula B to the base. “We rooted her out and left a bright piece right in front,” says Nikki.

3. To create depth in Hilary’s blonde color, Nikki painted lowlights with Formula C.

4. Next, she toned with an all-over gloss using Formula D.

5. After allowing the color to process, Nikki rinsed and applied In Common’s Crystal Cashmere deep conditioning treatment to lock and seal everything in.

6. After the color was finished, Nikki and Lisa applied a combination of Great Lengths extensions in 18” and 20”. “Great Lengths Tapes Plus adds that extra dose of perfection,” says Nikki. “We mixed the rooted and bronde tape-ins in the back of the head and individual keratin tip extensions in front and sides for the most moveable effortless look.”
