Inspired by the hit Disney film Frozen, Joseph Cuozzo, Owner of Zion The Hair Salon and Cuozzo Studio for Hair in Madison, NJ, created this icy blonde hue that is sure to score major points with the blondes in your chair. According to Joseph, he has never heard of the movie until his client requested Elsa’s color. “When I said, ”who?” Everyone in the salon with kids started laughing! I went right to my phone and pulled up some pictures and there was the animated Ice Queen!” “I started taking my more mainstream blondes a little icy and they were liking it. Not necessarily lighter, but cooler,” says Joseph. “This look is the ultimate polar vortex color.” Since creating this Icy, Elsa hue, Joseph has been getting requests for it more and more. “There is something about white hair with no gold undertones that makes people go crazy!”

To create this cool shade, Joseph applied the color in two appointments, seven weeks apart. According to Joseph, the key to getting that icy blonde, while maintaining the hairs integrity is discussing a time frame with the client that is realistic. “I told this client that we could get her to this color, but it would be over the course of two to three appointments over one to two months,” recalls Joseph. “I wont do work that could compromise the integrity of the hair. Slow and steady wins the race to Ice Blonde.” After the first process, Joseph says he felt they were close, so they stopped there. He then retouched the color seven weeks later with the same formula, he just adjusted the processing time on the midlengths and ends. This was also the first client Joseph used Olaplex on. “I would not have put lightener on her midlengths and end had I not had Olaplex,” said Joseph. “Based off what I heard from my Wella peer, Aubrey Loots inL.A., I felt confident in putting the lightener on the ends with the retouch, adding Olaplex.” Despite the amazing reviews and results, you still need to use caution, warns Josepf. “We did an elasticity test through the process and sure enough, Olaplex delivered! It allowed me to push the envelope further without compromising the integrity of my client’s hair.”
