Breaking the base—it’s the technique that can help you break up your client’s contrast of highlights and natural base without the need for a lengthy double-process. And the best part? It gives her hair a rest from lightener and gives you more length to work with when it’s time for her highlight touch-up!

Sounds great—but what about hot roots? With the right color selection and developer choice, you can shake your base-breaking fear. Using the new ChromaSilk Ultra Hi-Lift color line from PRAVANA, you can give your client a look she’ll absolutely love! Here’s how to break the base!

COLOR FORMULAS

  • Formula A:

Ultra Hi-Lift Ash + PRAVANA Zero Lift Creme Developer

  • Formula B:

Express Tones Beige + PRAVANA Zero Lift Creme Developer

FORMULA STEPS

1. Apply Formula A to the regrowth. Process until desired lightness and tonal deposit is achieved. (Note: When using a lower volume developer, the processing time will increase.)

2. Shampoo the hair with any PRAVANA NEVO Shampoo.

3. Starting in the back and working towards the front, apply Formula B to damp, towel-dried hair. Process for 5 minutes!

4. Rinse well and condition using any PRAVANA NEVO Conditioner. Style as desired.

Something to remember: The client’s natural color level will determine the underlying pigments that you will need to consider for your formulation. When the natural level is between two levels, choose the darker of the two as your starting point. When less lift and more tonal control is desired from your base-break, formulate with a lower-level developer.
