Check out the newest color correction from Kimemily Pham (@kimwasabi). “Yvonne was a first-time client,” shares Kim. “She had previously gotten peekaboo caramel highlights, which she then used black box color to cover up.”

Yvonne told Kim she wanted to be a lighter, dimensional blonde, suitable for a professional workplace. She also wanted to keep her hair as long as possible.

Because she was a first-time client, Kim started by performing a strand test to see how much lift Yvonne’s hair could handle, if any. Once she determined her hair was able to go through the process, she booked an appointment. Here’s Kim’s breakdown for this soft, dimensional balayage.

FORMULA STEPS

1. Kim started with a haircut. “I cut two inches off the length, and added long layers with shorter, face-framing layers,” she says.

2. Section the hair into quadrants. Starting in the nape, take ½-inch horizontal sections, backcomb each section and weave in Formula A, using a babylight technique. Switch to Formula B closer to the crown. Process for about 2.5 hours total at room temperature, checking frequently.

3. Remove foils. Because her ends didn’t lift as light due to residual color, Kim re-applied Formula B on the ends and covered with foils. Process for another 30 minutes.

4. Rinse, treat with Olaplex No.2 for 20 minutes, then shampoo and condition. Dry hair completely.

5. Glaze the roots with Formula C, the midlengths with Formula D and the ends with Formula E. Process at room temperature for 25 minutes.

6. Rinse, treat with Olaplex No.2 for 20 minutes, then shampoo, condition, apply Kenra Professional Platinum Blow-Dry Spray and Kenra Professional Color Charge Spray Serum and blow-dry.

7. Kim then cut off another ½-inch, and used a 1.5-inch curling iron to curl her hair. She finished with Kenra Platinum Silkening Mist and Kenra Professional Volume Spray 25.
