Who is the ideal client candidate for this technique?

 “Literally anyone looking to have fun with their hair color! I would suggest someone with a darker base color if they want it to look like the picture, but a blonde could also do this too,” says Ashlee. This look is not recommended for the client who washes their hair every day, refuses to use professional products, and who cannot embrace the fade. 

How long does this process generally take and how long does it last?

“If I had to pre-lighten her first it would take about three to four hours. Since she was already light, this whole service took about an hour and a half,” explains Ashlee. This particular look can generally last a couple of months with proper care. 

What do in-salon and at-home care look like for this technique?

With proper aftercare, this color can last a couple of months. Not washing often, cold water rinses, only shampooing the root, and using a  sulfate-free color-safe shampoo such as Matrix Keep Me Vivid Shampoo will prolong the color.

“Hers will probably fade out but not disappear in five to eight washes. I always tell my clients that these colors do fade so they know what to expect, but also to embrace the fade and enjoy the stages of fade out,” says Ashlee. “This client changes her color often so I did not recommend a color-depositing shampoo, but that is also an option. She is in the salon every eight weeks for her root touch up so I will refresh her ends as well if she decides to keep the color.”
