FORMULA STEPS

1. Starting in the back, alternate applying Formulas A and B in a 2:1 ratio—two highlights per one lowlight. “Make sure to only run Formula B on her virgin hair and stop at the line of demarcation,” shares Rayhana.

2. Once the back is complete, move on to the face-framing area and apply Formula B only. “My face-framing application starts at the top of the forehead with five back-to-back slices of lightener,” notes Rayhana.

3. Next, move to the top of the crown and alternate applying Formulas A and B just like Step 1. Work from top to bottom vertically on both sides of the head.

4. Process for 40 minutes or until the highlights reach a pale blonde Level 9. Remove the foils, then wash her hair.

5. Towel-dry, then apply Formula C to the root area only. Process for 10 minutes, then rinse and towel-dry the hair again. Do not shampoo.

6. Tone with Formula D and process for 6 minutes, ensuring her hair is fully saturated.

7. For the cut, remove the damaged ends (Rayhana cut off about 3 inches), then blow-dry and create loose, beachy waves with a 1¼ inch Hot Tools curling iron.
