Varga-esque by Melbourne’s Craig Skeates

Craig Skeates of John Morrey Salon in Melbourne created this unique photo story based on beautiful retro-inspired styling. This collection was inspired by “Vargas Girls,” the popular pin-up art of Alberto Varga from the 1940s to the 1970s. “My collection includes strong, solid retro colors that form the basis of these distinctive cuts and upstyles inspired by a past era but with a commercial, contemporary flavor. The solid silhouettes of these hairstyles are indicative of the Vargas era, with Vargas-style femininity flowing throughout the collection. Soft internal lines were created by foiling, balayage, splicing and other creative techniques to enhance the texture with soft hues and multi-dimensional tones, giving the color a commercial edge.
