The risqué underworld of 1920s Weimar, a tumultuous decade of social and political turmoil, portraits from New Objectivity artist Christian Schad depicted the glittering Coquette; she flirted, beguiled and entangled her victims in the midst of the moral decay going on around her.

“Sassoon’s Coquette is all curves and angles with iconic twenties haircuts such as The Bob and Eton Crop as inspiration,” says Mark Hayes, Sassoon International Creative Director.  A variety of techniques were used to craft the looks in this darkly decadent collection: kiss curls drawn into rounded triangles, Clara Bow fringes, severe graduation, scissors over comb work.  Lines of meticulous geometry clash with Cubist angles, disconnected step panels and scalloped curves.

The vibrant color tones take a cue from Art Deco enameling and abstract compositions popular in 1920s Germany.  Vibrant tones are outlined in a darker hue. Clear crystal blondes are outlined with silver, vermillion with black. 

Judging from these gorgeous looks, Weimar – the dark, dangerous time in 1920s Germany between WWI and WWII – served as the perfect inspiration for creating this seductively decadent collection.
