Pops of color. Echoes of decay. Grainy imagery. Moody, haunting, angst-filled disenchantment with society. Also—a complex and refreshingly experimental approach. That was Shoegazing, a subgenre of alternative rock music that emerged in London in the early ‘90s…and Shoegazing was the inspiration for this collection from Siobhan Benson and Ellie Coates. Wispy, choppy wefts, sculptural pieces and elongated ponytails are punctuated with color melting effects that are vivid, contemporary and high contrast. It’s a stripped-down, music-inspired esthetic—this one recalls everything that gave grunge its creative edge.
