CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON:
THE 2007 EUROPE CUP

For stylists who love to compete, there’s a new venue in Europe.  Following the Organisation Mondiale de la Coiffure (OMC) Hairworld in Moscow, a new and exciting challenge awaits young hairdressers.  It’s the 2007 Europe Cup, the European hair championships established by the OMC.

After a successful launch of the competition in Athens in 2005, this year’s final will take place in Frankfurt, Germany, May 13th and 14th during Hair & Beauty, Germany’s most important hair fair.

During the fair, two competitions will crown the OMC Europe Cup Tournament Champion and the OMC European Champion, respectively.  The first title can only go to hairstylists that, besides having earned entry to the 2007 finals, have taken part in at least three other events on the circuit.  Conversely, the European Champion title is an all-or-nothing race for the gold.

The European Championships are open to all hairstylists worldwide who are affiliated with the OMC.  Salvatore Fodera, OMC president, explains, “Our organization is present in 65 countries, representing over 500,000 people and more than 3,000 competitors that participate in a variety of contests.  They are all free to enter.”

Q:  President, why was there a need for a European Championship in addition to the World Championships?
Fodera:
“Another contest gives hairstylists another chance to test their creative capacity and to continue to surpass themselves.  Plus, this event is an homage to Europe, a way to give OMC member countries another occasion to compete.”

Q:  How important is it for youths to participate in these events?
Fodera:
“It’s very important for two reasons.   First of all because it helps contestants to develop more and more faith in themselves, accumulate experience, get used to working under pressure and offers the chance to get to know new people.  Secondly, the competitions improve, through the comparisons made with other salon professionals in the sector, the capacity to satisfy the needs and requests of clients in the salon.”

Q: Can you give a hint at what’s coming for the World Championships in 2008?
Fodera:
“The OMC World Cup 2008 will be held in Chicago March 1-3, 2008 during the Chicago Midwest Beauty Show, one of the most important hairstyling events in America.  The Europe Cup 2007 could be considered a sort of “pre-selection.”

The USA National Cosmetology Association will be hosting the 2008 event and expects more than 100,000 spectators.  Fodera says the OMC expects over 1,000 competitors from five continents to compete in two distinct world cups in the fashion and technical categories.  For young talent, this is a chance to jump into the realm of hair and to learn, grow and become future hairstyling leaders.

There is a wide variety of categories in which competitors can showcase their talent and creativity.  In the Technique and Fashion category, competitions include Street Fashion, Trend Cut, Creative Style, Updo and Full Fashion Look.  The Hair and Beauty category includes competitions in Just Married, Real Daydream, Stage Make-Up, Catwalk Inspirations and Luxury Style.
