Polychrome is easy. A little of this, a little of that, a splash of blue, a spot of red. It grabs the eye and shouts, “I’m here! Look at me!” Monochrome is the shy friend, avoiding the limelight, off to the side. Quiet. Modest. Low key. But monochrome is also smart. Complicated. It bears closer inspection and when it does, it delights. A single hue, subtly lightened or deepened with neutrals like black, grey, tan or white. In this case, the hue is pink, and if you look closely, it’s presented in all its monochromatic diversity—strong and soft. Texture in the hair, wardrobe and photography play off of monochrome nicely, coupling its peaceful presence with exhilarating energy. Remember—the best isn’t always obvious. Sometimes it requires a little extra effort to uncover, but in every case, it’s well worth the trouble.
