ghd Takes 2006 Fashion Weeks by Storm

Leading global hair beauty brand took to the New York and London catwalks during September’s fashion weeks with a range of new hair creations for Spring/Summer 2006.

In association with key celebrity session stylists, ghd styled the hair backstage at three of the season’s hottest international shows – Alice Temperley, Zac Posen and Frost French. ghd Australia also collaborated with Australian Vogue’s favourite stylist Renya Xydis to lead the hair direction for rising star Kit Willow’s first New York show.

In what was both Alice Temperley and ghd’s New York debut, the combination of intricately beaded clothes and romantically styled hair meant the Midsummer’s Night dream-inspired show was hailed as one of the highlights at Bryant Park.  In Alice Temperley’s magical world, Spring will see last season’s blunt, straighter edges evolve into a softer look with looser sections of movement. To reflect the collection’s romantic beauty, the hair inspiration came from two leading historic sirens, Queen Guinevere of Camelot and Rapunzel.

Kim Cattrall took centre stage on the front row and models on the catwalk included two of the industry’s biggest names – Lily Cole and Jacquetta Wheeler.  And the word from backstage was that rising international model Noot Sear was delighted when she saw her ghd goodie bag as, since the brand’s recent launch in the US, a ghd ceramic styling iron had been on her must-buy shopping list.

Rising Australian star Kit Willow put on a New York show to remember, showcasing a range of stunning creations including fitted bodices and corsets, hand pleated, dip-dyed chiffon and wisps of silk tulle.

In a feat previously unheard of in the competitive world of New York Fashion Week, the Zac Posen show received a standing ovation.  Next season, Zac Posen females will be effortlessly “cool” and luxuriously dressed in a collection that featured the rich exoticism of the Ballet Russe, with vibrant flashes of colour, like gold, mandarin, and violet. In keeping with the show’s mood of soft seduction and warm escape, the hair was pretty, relaxed and featured side-parted ponytails with straight and curly strands.

With arguably the highest celeb count at the New York shows, Zac Posen attracted a number of A-list guests. Visitors backstage included P Diddy, Naomi Campbell and Foxy Brown, with stars such as Nicky Hilton, Clare Danes, Kelly Osborne, Steve Bing and Mario Testino all gracing the front rows. Models on the catwalk included all the top girls of the moment – Gemma Ward, Lily Donaldson, Carmen Klass and Shalom.

The ghd hair beauty range and ceramic irons are available only through ghd-approved salons or through the ghd website.
