The idea behind this 2005 British Hairdressing Awards nominee’s collection was to make the hair really stand out, by making strong lines and fringes in the cuts.  The models were made to look like Alien mannequins, I wanted to do tight cropped shots so there was no room for error and the cuts were really exposed.

My inspiration for Alien Nation, says Gill, came from living in an inner city, I feel that though people pass each other in the street and on the underground, they rarely speak to each other. The human race tries as much as possible to cut itself of from each other with mobile phones, I-pods, Blackberrys and laptops. We have become an Alien Nation, the pictures have a emotionless, still feel allowing the hair to have impact.

All the cuts were done with traditional techniques and layering patterns, and precision lines put in to the fringe areas; the hair was blow dried with Wella SP Fluid Crystal, and straightened and finished withWella SP Flash Light. The results achieved were strong shapes and lines with incredible shine and smoothness.
