Aveda “Raw Beauty” Autumn/Winter Collection

In their newest collection for Autumn/Winter 2009 “Raw Beauty,” Aveda transforms tradition into fashion-forward looks. Aveda’s Artistic Team translates symbols of the indigenous Yawanawa people of the Brazilian Amazon into a truly modern vision of global beauty and style. 


Under the direction of Antoinette Beenders, Global Creative Director for the Company, the Aveda team has created a collection that embodies the power and depth of the Yawanawa.  The Raw Beauty Collection’s bold coloring and strong lines bring tradition to life in modern, versatile looks—from sleek and smooth short cuts to long layers with built-in texture. Clean and chic styles are emboldened with shades of earthy red and violet.  The versatility of these looks is evident as they’re transformed into elegant yet edgy updo’s. 


“The Yawanawa culture is rich in inspiration – from the colorful Uruku pigment to the graphic tribal symbols,” said Antoinette Beenders. “Raw Beauty celebrates the Yawanawa and provides a modern take on their iconic imagery.”  Beenders continued, “Rudy Miles, Global Makeup Director for Aveda, called upon his travels to Brazil to visit and learn from the Yawanawa as inspiration in creating a visually arresting makeup look for the collection.”
