Upgraded Blunt Braid By Laurent Philippon For Christian Cowan FW2018

close formula

When it comes to the New York Fashion Week hair scene, you never know what to expect. Designers work with hairstylists to capture the theme of their collection, and while most look to the hair as an enhancement of the clothes, Christian Cowan turns to Bumble and bumble Global Artistic Director Laurent Philippon for some honest creativity—and for his FW18 collection, that’s exactly what he got.

Lead stylist Laurent created long rope braids completed with a funky tassel-like extension knotted at the base of the pony. The end style shies away from a typical everyday look and instead offers creative inspiration when working with everyday techniques and products like braids and extensions. Watch how Laurent created the look below.

1. Create a strong foundational ponytail. Make sure the pony sits in the middle of the head.

2. Once the pony is created, use Bb. Thickening Spray to totally saturate the ponytail while creating a regular three-strand braid.

3. Once you’re halfway down the ponytail, add one weft of hair to the braid every time you pull the hair over. (See video below).

4. Continue braiding, adding hair and spraying the Bb. Thickening Spray until you reach the waist. Secure the braid with Bb. Spray de Mode Flexible Hold Hairspray and a blow dryer.

5. Once the braid is complete, Laurent ties an additional weft of hair around the base of the ponytail to create a tassel-like knot. Watch the video below to see what we mean!

6. After the hair is knotted, cut both sides of the extension bluntly and spray with Bb. Spray de Mode Flexible Hold Hairspray.
