TONIandGUY Unveils the New Classics at the 2014 Photographic Awards
The treats were sweet for attendees of the 2014 TONI&GUY Photographic Awards in Dallas last week. The audience was the first to witness the latest, greatest, revitalized TONI&GUY New Classics Collection, unveiled by the collection’s mastermind, TONI&GUY Creative Director of the Americas, Zak Mascolo. There was an amazing fashion presentation, presented by Zak and members of the TONI&GUY and TIGI teams. More than 25 individuals and teams took home Photographic Awards. BTC’s own Mary Rector-Gable inspired the crowd with a moving presentation. And for the first time in a very long time, the Mascolo family—including Bruno, Anthony, Pat, Zak, Caroline and Paul Joseph—appeared onstage together. It was an event to remember!
The New Classics collection, according to Zak, combines English precision with Italian flair—a nod to the Mascolo family heritage. There is a renewed emphasis on finishing with four style and style how-tos, including a faux bob and a new twist on a French twist. There is also a new square layered cut, a new clipper cut and modification on the existing collection of men’s and women’s cuts, with color how-tos included for all.
The day also included cutting and coloring demonstrations from Zak, TIGI’S Thomas Osborne and Richy Kandasamy, and Samantha Finley, National Creative Technical Director for TONI&GUY. Even Bruno, Anthony and Paul got their hands into some hair and Pat performed her makeup magic! The team then wow’d the crowd with an amazing avant garde presentation.
Mary motivated the audience—many of whom were TONI&GUY Academy students—to avoid taking the easy way. Success, she told them, comes only with sacrifice. “You must take the stairs,” she said, “not the elevator.”
The night ended with the excitement of the annual Photographic Awards, which honors teams and individuals for excellence. Mary was on hand to present a special series of BTC Editor’s Choice Awards, selected by behindthechair editors. Here is a complete list of winners!
