1. Use This Mask For Extra Moisture

After a color service, you can choose between using OLAPLEX No. 5 or the new OLAPLEX 4-in-1 Moisture Mask to condition the hair. What’s the difference? OLAPLEX No. 5 is a classic moisturizing conditioner, while OLAPLEX 4-in-1 Moisture Mask repairs and hydrates severely damaged hair. So, the moisture mask is perfect for your clients that need a little more TLC.

2. Color-Treated Vs. Virgin Hair

Unlike traditional deep conditioning treatments which take time to work, OLAPLEX 4-in-1 Moisture Mask only needs 10 minutes to process at the shampoo bowl. Apply it immediately following OLAPLEX No. 4 after coloring. The hair cuticles will be open so the mask can penetrate easier. If your client has virgin hair, use the mask under a hooded dryer to open up the cuticle.

Pro Tip: The mask features a lightweight formula, so you don’t have to worry about using too much on fine hair. When in doubt, LaQuita recommends using two pumps to start with and adding more as needed.

3. Detangle & Twist

As the conditioner mask processes, use that time to detangle your client’s hair. Here’s how LaQuita does it:

  • First, apply OLAPLEX 4-in-1 Moisture Mask to soaking wet hair.

  • Next, run a brush through a small section, from the ends to the roots, to detangle.

  • Once detangled, twist the hair around your finger to form a spiral. This helps train the hair to curl in the desired shape.

  • Continue on to the next section until the entire head is detangled.

  • Rinse out the conditioner.

Pro Tip: When working with balayage or highlights, make sure to detangle lightened sections separately to avoid unwanted tangling from clashing curl patterns.

4. Define Curls At The Shampoo Bowl

LaQuita prefers to style her clients right at the shampoo bowl. After rinsing out the conditioning mask, she applies OLAPLEX No. 6 and OLAPLEX No. 7. Keep adding water as needed and brush through the hair in small sections to define the curls.

5. Don’t Diffuse Until The Hair Is Almost Dry

Touching the hair too soon with the diffuser nozzle is what causes frizz to form in your curly clients. To get the bouncy, sleek curls your clients love, blow dry hovering around the hair until it’s 70 percent dry. This allows the styling products to form a cast around the curls to lock in frizz, so you can fully diffuse the hair without puffy results at the end.

Note: Looking to speed up the blow drying process? LaQuita uses two diffusers in each hand so both sides dry at the same time.
