The Ideal Lob Haircut For Clients With Thin Strands

Your fine-haired client is ready to chop off her long locks for something more on-trend, like a lob. How do you cut her thin strands to create movement without making it look thinner? How do you create a lob that doesn’t look as heavy as the bottom of a broom? Enter the shaggy lob, a haircut hybrid that Ashlee Norman (@ashleenormanhair) created on a model at a recent demo.

“I wanted the shape to be modern but a square bob would be too flat and a round shag would be too skinny, so I decided to go triangular,” Ashlee shared in an Insta caption.

Ready to master the shaggy lob? Keep scrolling because we’ve got a video quickie to show you how it’s done, three must-know tips PLUS a detailed diagram breaking down the shape of this cut.

Remember These 3 Tips For The Shaggy Lob…

1. The triangular shape isn’t reserved for the perimeter only. Ashlee says she cuts inversions, or V shapes, throughout to create points of interest that look piecey, not thin. Check out the diagram below breaking down the cut:

2. Ashlee didn’t think a razor was the right tool to use with her client’s texture, so she cut the hair dry with 7-inch scissors instead.

3. While they won’t be visible, Ashlee likes to add just a little more movement by point cutting mini triangles in the layers.
