The French Pony and More at UNITE Exposed!
UNITE Senior Artistic Director Renee Africa and UNITE Artistic Director Jean Barton led a UNITE Exposed educational event in San Diego, recently, one in a series of Exposed sessions scheduled throughout the year.
Renee and Jean cited their inspiration for their haircuts and styles as “Goth meets Bohemian—a little dark and a little ‘70s.” One of the most popular looks of the evening was Renee’s “French ponytail,” a massively textured twist that combines two iconic styles. She reveals that she used two UNITE Haircare favorites—Boosta Spray Volumizing and Tricky Finishing Wax—to create the explosive volume before fashioning the final shape.
Jean performed a crowd-pleasing haircut designed to reduce weight and create texture and movement in long hair without sacrificing length. It relies on disconnected layers and c-shaped scoops on select face frame sections. To finish, she applied Blow&Set Lotion, Boosta Spray Volumizing and Elevate Mousse to damp hair, rough dried, then selected random sections, twisted, pressed with a flat iron, released and finally curved the ends with a curling iron. “UNITE products are so lightweight,” Jean noted. “You can layer and layer five, six, seven or eight of them and they never build up.”
The team presented 10 models in total, featuring intricate braiding, cutting and a spectrum of finishing. Renee also provided insights into the product line, interacting with the audience, and taking questions. Jean presented a fashion infused set of cutting and styling models, using finishing techniques creating exaggerated volume and updo styling.
The UNITE Exposed event schedule continues with dates planned that include:
9/20—San Francisco, Calif.
10/14—Costa Mesa, Calif.
