For the big event, we invited everyone to join us for our 16th annual Stylist Choice Awards followed by our first-ever “On Tour” event—complete with celebrity stylists, huge education and tons of selfies. If you weren’t able to make it this weekend, no worries! We’ve got you covered. Here are our top moments from one of our biggest parties yet!

1. We Went Big…Like State Street Big!

We made the Chicago Theatre marquee, sooooo we’re basically taking over the world! But seriously, what better way to celebrate our Sweet Sixteen than to party it up in one of Chicago’s most iconic theatres?! We knew our 16th annual Stylist Choice Awards would be an event unlike any other and to house our first-ever “On Tour” we knew we had to go big or go home, and the famous Chicago Theatre was the absolute perfect fit.

Why the fist bump? Inside joke—you had to be there!

Oh yes, ladies and gents—The LEGENDARY Chris McMillan, the celeb stylist behind the ’90s iconic “The Rachel,” Miley’s undercut and some of today’s most influential beauty magazine covers. And BTC’s Mary Rector-Gable hosted a super intimate interview with him on the “On Tour” stage. Seriously, he’s the best. Chris was adorably nervous before the interview started (icons get nervous, too!), but everyone immediately fell in love with him the second he hit the stage.

When Mary asked him, “What’s it’s like being a celebrity stylist?” He responded with a cool and effortless, “What’s it like being a celebrity stylist? It’s like being a stylist.” The applause was deafening, and everyone knew then and there that the next 45 minutes were going to be something truly special. And they were.

3. “On Tour” is a Smash Hit!

BTC went “On Tour” and it was a HUGE success. But let’s break this down for a minute. When we decided to host “On Tour” we had a very specific idea in mind. We wanted it to be a celebration for the love of hairdressing. We wanted it to be fun and chill and unlike anything we’ve ever done. To have the kindest and the most talented hairdressers take our stage, to bring together some of the biggest names in the industry to introduce BTC’s first-ever “On Tour” in our home city of Chicago.

And we wanted to do it all for you: the passionate and hardworking stylists who create beautiful hair every day behind the chair. To show that continuing your education and following your dreams can make HUGE things happen. Because if there is one thing we learned at this year’s show (besides all of those fabulous tips and tricks!), it’s that those big celeb stylists and those fancy fashion week hairdressers really are just like all of us.

4. But First…Let Me Take a Selfie!

Before BTC “On Tour” officially got started, Mary invited the crowd up to the front of the theatre to take selfies with the artists and it was AWESOME. For 15 minutes, stylists made some killer memories with their hair icons. SO MAJOR.

Sonya Dove, the once self-proclaimed wallflower content to “smile quietly from the backseat” is TAKING OVER! She smashed it at COLOR, Cut & Style 2015 (that standing ovation was proof enough!), she graced the cover of BTC’s On Paper where she bravely told her story and then…The Stylist Choice Award Educator of the Year!

Always gracious, Sonya accepted her award with humility and style: “I don’t even know what to say,” she smiled. “Honestly, when I saw my name on the screen, I held my phone up to record, because I felt so grateful to be up there with those names. They’re people who are amazing to me.” She continued, “Dreams come true. I’m no different than anyone else. I’m just lucky.”

…Not a dry eye in the house.

This bag was so amazing that even after a night of partying, we wanted to run home and try out every product—and we did! Thanks to all our sponsors for making this the best Swag Bag yet!

7. Suns Out, Buns Out!

Mary threw down in her famous newscast with some hilarious quips. All in good fun, the jokes were hilarious, sassy and got huge laughs from the crowd. But the best part? Seeing Justin Anderson’s sexy “man buns!” Ow ow!

8. The Return of #ONESHOT

Mary took the stage during the show to announce that our #ONESHOT Hair Awards are back and hotter than ever! And when she did, she brought winners Matty Conrad @mattyconrad and Rickey Zito @hairgod_zito with her! Getting a little choked up, the boys told the audience what #ONESHOT means to them.

“I’m a country boy from a small town. My mother was a hairdresser. My daddy was a barber. I was raised in and out of a salon. I never thought anything like this would happen in my life,” said Rickey. “One award has changed my life in so many ways. It opened up so many opportunities and doors. Sometimes I don’t even know how to handle it. I’m loving it. I’m riding this wave.”

9. She Said WHAT?!

Two words: Sally. Hershberger. This ICONIC stylist took the stage at BTC “On Tour” to teach the very best in shag-cutting. Her amazing talent combined with her rock ‘n’ roll presence made for an awesome show, but something that was super fun to watch as well? Her relationship with Director of Education at Sally Hershberger Salon, Mary Brunetti. The two traded the kind of banter only acceptable between old colleagues and friends—such a joy to watch. With an extensive celebrity clientele, when Sally started sharing some trade secrets, Mary joked: “I’m going to have to get someone up here on stage to pick up all the names Sally’s been dropping!”

OMG. Totally love these talented ladies!

10. Did We Just Become Best Friends?

When you’ve got a whole bunch of the industry’s biggest talent in one spot, it’s only natural that some pretty serious bonds start to form. From editorial to behind-the-chair to celeb stylists—everyone came together with their love of the craft. And after the show? We celebrated! Because who doesn’t want to go out in Chicago on a Monday?! Cheers to a great show, everyone!

Remember that one time Matty Conrad twerked on stage? Here’s a reminder. You’re welcome.

OK, so real talk: Matty Conrad is a BABE. Funny, sweet, talented and smart, it’s always a joy to have him on the BTC stage. And this time, Matty gave everyone a surprise when he decided to get his twerk on during SCA. SO perfect.

From stage dancing to lending a model his shoes, Matty kept everyone energized and laughing all weekend. And then there was this inspirational gem: “Comparison is the thief of joy. What we do is unique to who we are. Everybody has their own special thing to give, and if all we’re trying to do is beat each other, we are stealing joy from what we do. Do it for the joy of cutting hair!”

12. Sarah’s Stomping Grounds

During her presentation at “On Tour,” Chicago-girl Sarah Potempa saw someone special out in the crowd. And then she brought her up on stage—the owner of the first salon Sarah worked at when she was just starting out. We all know how powerful a mentor can be. They’re the people who keep us going, who inspire us. What are the chances Sarah would find hers here! Tears were shed, hugs were given and the audience was speechless. See it below!

You may think Sweet Sixteen is for pretty princesses, but at BTC it was all about those QUEENS! We handed out tiaras to the crowd, had our presenters dress like royalty and featured a special presentation called “God Save the Queens”—complete with creations from Kenra, TIGI, American Crew, Great Lengths, JCP, label.m and L’ANZA.

 14. The California Crew

On Sunday, all of our “On Tour” artists were prepping in the salon. And surprise, surprise—guess who stopped by to hang for a bit?!  Chris McMillan. Yes, THE Chris McMillan. Humble, hilarious and TOTALLY talented, Chris stopped by the prep salon and did some cutting for colorist Justin Anderson’s models (they have a long history together, since Justin is actually a stylist at Chris’ salon in Beverly Hills!)

FUN FACT: All of Justin’s models he did for his presentation on Monday for “On Tour” work for or with him at Chris McMillan the Salon! How cool is that?!

15. BTC Goes Green! (Luck of the Irish Style!)

We all know hairdressers love to party, so we invited everyone down on Chicago’s favorite holiday—St. Patrick’s Day weekend! The river was green, the hair was hot and the drinks were flowin’! It was the perfect time to have the world’s biggest hair industry awards! And just to let you all know, “On Tour” in Chicago was just the beginning.

Oh the places we will go… “On Tour” isn’t over! So, when are we going to be in your city?
