Jason Backe’s job is pretty stellar. Not only does he get to work with the wonderful Ted Gibson on a daily, he gets to color some of the hottest celebs and up-and-coming starlets in Hollywood. His color choice these days is INOA, the revolutionary new ammonia-free color line from L’Oréal Professionnel. Straight from the colorist’s mouth, Backe predicts what is going to be hot for the rest of spring and in high demand for the summer in the land of client color:

Sexy Tone On Tone Variation – We will see a lot of subtle variation this spring and summer – whether it’s soft highlight over a single process blonde or a light brown highlight through a brunette base – like I’ve given Anne Hathaway. This gives hair color a modern softness that still has all the dimension we love to see.
As a general rule I never like bringing permanent hair color through the mid-lengths and ends to refresh or richen faded color. Because INOA has no ammonia, I love using it to deliver long lasting rich results from scalp to ends – so shiny and soft!!!

Beachy Looking Ends – Girls (blonde or brunette) love to look like they have been at the beach!  By free hand painting or using Balayage through some of the ends you can achieve this sexy look – like I do for Lake Bell.
When you use INOA you can lift up to three levels and because the cuticle is less compromised, the natural remaining pigment is easier to control – if you formulate neutral, you get neutral – I love the way the shades are true to the swatch.

Sexy Blond on Blonde – I don’t know if it’s true that blonds have more fun but they definitely don’t have less fun! As far as I’m concerned nothing says “Girl of Summer” more than blond on blond variation like I did with Elettra Rossellini Weideman.
I have had the most spectacular results using INOA for highlighting – the product applies perfectly and evenly, the results are seamless and shiny and the hair feels refreshed and soft.

Hidden Highlights for Dimension and Movement – This spring and summer we don’t want to see chunky highlights coming off the hairline or part – instead have bolder ribbons coming from the interior like I did for Ashley Greene.
Because INOA is so predictable I know I can get amazing results time after time. For Ashley I put in her hidden highlights and painted the single process around the packets. I rinsed it all at the same time and ended up with an incredible result!
