Stylist Choice Awards 2015: Our 15th Year “Birthday Party”

The 15th Anniversary Stylist Choice Awards offered the sold-out audience of more than 4,000 stylists and VIPs a night to remember that was filled with laughs, memories, but most of all joy. BTC Founder and Creative Director Mary Rector-Gable reminded the audience that although the last 15 years have been quite a ride, it was all worth it. SCA was filled with enthusiastic award winners and presenters, artistic presentations that were out-of-this world cool, and even special encore presentation of the COLOR 2014 finale.

After an opening segment which included clown and circus-themed graphics, it was time to start announcing the winners in the 36 categories that ranged from haircolor, styling products, nails, software, furniture and even eyelash extensions. The presenter line-up was one of the best ever!  The 2015 SCA Presenter List included: Christopher Dove and John Simpson for Co-Create; Patrick Kalle, Maurice den Exter  and Anna Cantu for Farouk Systems; Antoinette Beenders, Ian Michael Black and Janell Geason for Aveda; Chrystofer Benson and Nicholas French for Matrix; The Schorem Barbers, Leen and Bertus; Thomas Osborn and Richy Kandasamy for TIGI; Kim Vo for Schwarzkopf Professional; Fabio Sementilli and Diane Stevens; Beth Minardi for Beth Minardi Signature; Sam Villa and Justin Isaac for Redken; Stephanie BrinkerhoffJohn Paul DeJoria, Angus Mitchell, Robert Cromeans and Jason Yates for Paul Mitchell Systems; haircolor experts Guy Tang and Rebecca Taylor; Nick Stenson and Aimee Thompson for jcp salons; Shauky Gulamani and Gregory Patterson for FHI Heat; Robert Ham and Kevin Hughes for Moroccanoil; Founder of Second Hand Scissor Project Michael Baker; New York Salon Owner and TV Personality Oscar Blandi; Martino Cartier for Martino by Martino Cartier and HOTHEADS; Frank Gambuzza; Lynelle Lynch; Ruth Roche for Pureology; Anthony Cole and Yomi Miroslav Kabic for Sebastian Professional; Aubrey Loots and Michael Haase for Wella Professional; Robb Dubrè and Theresa Klimas for Kenra Professional and Rafe Hardy for Sexy Hair.

When it came to award winners, the evening held some very happy surprises. Beth Minardi claimed the title of Favorite Color Educator, making this her fourth overall Favorite Educator title. Paul Mitchell took the top award for Favorite Overall Professional Products Company, as well as Favorite Education Team. And Sam Villa walked away with the title of Favorite Overall Educator, tying Beth for his fourth Favorite Educator win. Aveda won Favorite Prestige Company for the second consecutive year, and Wella Professionals snatched up the title of Favorite Overall Color Company.

This year’s artistic presentations can only be described as technical works of art. Robert Cromeans and the Paul Mitchell Team offered up all sorts of textured hair looks infused with the popular reparative treatment MarulaOil; Mark Hayes and the Sassoon Academy Team wowed the crowd with an avant garde theatrical presentation; Sam Villa took braiding and face-paced styling to a whole new level with Redken; the Encore Color Show finale was a celebration in color when the 2014 artists, joined by 2015 Color Show artist Beth Minardi and Mary Cuomo of Paul Mitchell, presented their interpretations of stained glass.

Of course it wouldn’t be Stylist Choice Awards without Mary’s famous and highly anticipated Newscast, in which Mary once again filled the theater with laughter with her sharp observations on current events. She also made sure to bring back some of the best of BTC Newscast over the last 15 years.
