Spring Color Trend: Soft Reds
Don’t get us wrong—we love a rich, russet red. But if your clients are looking for something subtler this season, they could take a cue from Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone. They have both sported shades of the softest, sultriest red recently. It’s the perfect palette to welcome in spring and summer and celebrity colorist Doug Macintosh, Color Director at John Sahag Workshop in NYC, explains how to get it. “You can work honey blonde highlights in to brighten up the overall look,” he says. Here are the formulas he’d use to create Emma and Jessica’s lighter looks.
Emma’s Honey-ed Hue
Apply Effasol to remove the deeper pigment. Foil all around the head with L’Oréal Professionnel Platinium + 20-volume developer. Once the highlights reach a very light golden stage, remove them by section. Tone with L’Oréal Professionnel DiaLight 8.34 for 10 minutes.
Jessica’s Soft Strawberry
Follow steps 1 and 2 from Emma’s formula. Tone with DiaLight 7.43 + 8.3 for a slightly deeper color.
