More times than not, your client arrives to her appointment with her color inspiration in mind. So when Randa Rivera’s (@randacuts) client said she wanted to match beauty guru Jaclyn Hill’s signature scarlet red color, Randa got to work at Forma Collective Salon in Englewood, Colo. Color Formulas
Formula A (base): ¾ oz. L’Oréal Professionnel DIA Richesse 6.23 + ¼ oz. 5/5n + 9-volume developer

Formula B (midlengths): Equal parts DIA Richesse 8.31 + 7.31 + 9-volume developer

Formula C (ends): Equal parts DIA Richesse 9.13 + 9.31 + 9-volume developer

Formula D (base): DIA Richesse 3/3n + 9-volume developer

Formula E (midlengths/ends): DIA Richesse 6.55 + 9-volume developer

Formula F: PRAVANA ChromaSilk VIVIDS Red 


1. During her first session, start in the back two quadrants and work your way forward. Apply Formula A to the base, Formula B to the midlengths and Formula C to the ends in back-to-back foils with a diagonal back placement.

2. Pull Formula A down to different lengths to create a seamless, soft look. Process for 20 minutes.

3. At her second visit, start in the back two quadrants again and work your way forward. Apply Formula D first to the base, then go back in with Formula E. Feather Formuals D and E together. Do not use foils. Process in open air for 20 minutes.

4. Rinse and rough-dry the hair. Then apply Formula F, making sure the hair is fully saturated. Process for 25 minutes.
