Sand Art How-To!

Haircolor trends are inspired by a variety of different things, and this latest trend is taking unicorn hair to a whole new, intense level. Drawing inspiration from colored sand in a bottle, and bright, sugary confections, Hollie Perry from The Fox & The Hair Salon, Indiana, created a multi-tonal, pastel rainbow of color. Excited by her rainbow brite creation, Hollie entered her look in Kenra Professional’s color contest. “I have been using Kenra Color for about two years now, and I absolutely love it,” shares Hollie. “The colors are true to swatch and intermixable, which is a huge plus—the saturation is amazing.” Here’s how she created her sand art-inspired palette!

Kenra Professional Color Formulas
Formula A (prelighten): Kenra Professional No Ammonia Lightner + 30-volume developer

Formula B (base): Kenra Rapid SV + 9-volume developer

Formula C: 1½ oz. Kenra Creative Color Violet

Formula D: 1½ oz. Kenra Creative Color Pink

Formula E: 1½ oz. Kenra Creative Color Blue

Formula F: 1½ oz. Kenra Creative Color Yellow

Formula G: 1½ oz. Kenra Creative Color Teal

Formula H (Mint Green): ¼ oz. Kenra Creative Color Yellow + ¼ oz.  Kenra Creative Color Teal + ¼ oz. Kenra Creative Color White

Application
1. Prelighten the hair using Formula A and process at room temperature for 45 minutes.

2. Tone the hair with Formula B in small sections, then rinse and dry the hair completely.

3. Section the hair into quadrants and apply Formula C at the base of each quadrant in ½-inch sections.

4. Divide the hair into three sections (two sides and one back). Beginning at the nape of the neck, start ½-inch slices and begin applying Formulas D and E.

5. Melt each color together as you apply, working your way up to the crown. Section the hair, and in the crown, apply the following formulas in an alternating pattern: Pink, Violet, Blue, Teal, Yellow and Mint, melting them together as you apply.

6. Next follow the same steps on each side of the hair, working your way around the head. Process the colors for 20 minutes under heat, then allow them to cool for 10 minutes.

7. Shampoo, condition and blowout the hair.
