One of the top trends we saw at New York Fashion Week SS18? BRAIDS. FOR. DAYS. From edgy and on-the-scalp to whimsical, garden-inspired braids—we went backstage for a closer look at what goes into creating high fashion styles. Click through to see what braids took the runway this season, then check out how to recreate six looks below!

Check out all the photos from NYFW SS18!

4. Runway-Ready Fishtail

Korto Momoulu SS18 – Created by Aubrey Loots (@lootypics) using Wella Professionals and ghd

For the look above, Aubrey added synthetic hair to the model’s head, created a fishtail braid along the scalp and then pancaked it out for the finished look. His trick for controlling massive amounts of synthetic? Wella EIMI Thermal Image and Just Brilliant. It gives both the model’s real hair and the fake hair that’s attached an upgraded level of control, making the braid easy and quick to create (a backstage must!).

5.  Reverse Fishtail How-To

6. Braided Ponytail

Lela Rose SS18 – Hair by Lori Panarello (@rello4hair) using KMS

Recreate the runway-ready look in these four quick steps!

1. Apply KMS ADDVOLUME Styling Foam and Texture Crème to the hair for fullness, grip and cushion-like texture.

2. Then, apply KMS ADDVOLUME Liquid Dust (as needed!) to add additional fullness.

3. Create a high ponytail and a natural-looking, combed-back part.

4. Create a 3-strand braid and tie of with an elastic band!
