BTC’s Exclusive Onsite Coverage of the 2016 Pageant

BTC was once again backstage at the 2016 Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas wondering how a small team of 12 hairdressers gets 52 girls pageant ready in only a few hours when it seems we can’t get even our own hair and makeup done in the same time!? The team responsible for making it happen are the pros that have done it for the past eleven years. Who was the team behind those stage-worthy tresses? The CHI Haircare team, of course!

Farouk Systems has made sure each contestant’s hair is stage-worthy, but it’s more than just perfect hair. It is showing support for women striving to make a difference. “These young women defy the odds by juggling successful careers, education and humanitarian efforts while still reaching their goals,” Farouk Shami, Founder and CEO, said. “They are our future supporting other young women, serving their communities and even their country. We not only commend them but wish to be a part of their success and accomplishments.”

But that hair! These seasoned stylists knew all the right tricks to getting the 52 contestants ready in just a moment’s notice, and we got the scoop on everything—from how to prep curly hair for beautiful braided updos from Global Artistic Director, Patrick Kalle, to how to set clip-in extensions from CHI Artist Albert Ruiz. The contestants’ most requested look? #loosecurls! Efrain Leiva, CHI Artist, said the girls favored more natural looks this year. CHI Artist Christal Niles revealed the contestants wanted less volume (what?!) and leaned toward center parts. Laid-back hair? Still fly on the stage!

The stylists had to be on their A-game with only about five minutes to switch up the girls’ styles during the show! Christal revealed the best way to quickly change looks was to work with styles like tousled chignons or sideswept hair.

The biggest secret?! The CHI products! Just like the contestants, each product had to stand out. See our winners below!

2nd Runner Up: Farouk Royal Treatment Rapid Shine! Shiny hair is a total given at the pageant, but this shine spray freshens those gorgeous locks at a moment’s notice!

1st Runner Up: CHI Magnified Volume Finishing Spray! Switchin’ up those styles? Flexible hold = flexible hair!

The Winner: CHI 44 Iron Guard Style & Stay Firm Hold Protecting Spray! Patrick said to combine with BioSilk’s Volumizing Therapy Strong Hold Hairspray for the ultimate hold that survives strutting across the stage and changing from a bikini to a ball gown.

We got the behind-the-scenes scoop on Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach’s, top-notch top knot created by CHI Artist Abel Salazar! This was the first time she wore a top knot on the stage, but she said it was her go-to look back home in the Philippines.

Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach brings her homegrown style to the stage with her top knot styled by CHI Artist Abel Salazar!

And the stunning contestant who took home the crown? Miss District of Columbia, Deshauna Barber! Way to go! (Fun fact: the pageant opened with a video of Steve Harvey giving Terrence J some advice: “Don’t even say Columbia…don’t even say column!” We are happy Terrence J didn’t listen, LOL!)
