Don’t let your client walk around with a basic (or boring 🙈) ponytail! BTC Team Member Eric Vaughn (@realericvaughn) would NEVER—he likes his ponytails mid-level and popped with a bit of glam. His technique calls for waving the hair first, then using The Pony Popper to create bounce and volume before gathering the hair into place. Here are two quickie videos showing the prep and the styling process for this look.

Get The Steps

1. Prep with CHI Infra Texture Hair Spray to build a flexible, workable hold. Then, working in 2-inch sections, curl the hair using the CHI Lava Hairstyling Iron.

Pro Tip: Avoid curling right at the root—it isn’t necessary because this hair will be contained at the scalp once gathered into the pony.

2. After curling the entire head, brush through to break up the curls. Secure the base of the ponytail using a small elastic and snap the Pony Popper into place.

3. Then, starting at the top of the head, tease 1-inch sections until reaching the crown. Gather the rest of the hair into the pony (covering the Pony Popper), and secure with an Invisibobble®. Leave out a few face-framing strands to style at the end!

4. To hide the Invisibobble®, take a section of hair from the underside of the pony and wrap it around the bobble.

5. To finish the style, tease the hair in the ponytail using CHI Texturizing Spray for added volume. Then, style the face-framing hair however desired and finish with CHI Shine Infusion.
