Lady Gaga and Kerry Washington’s Chic Emmy Bobs

close formula

One word: Bobs. At this year’s Emmy Awards, this classic style was all the rage. Whether shaggy, sleek or faux, there was definitely a pattern. What better way to beat the heat while still keeping it chic and feminine? Here’s how you can get two of the best bobs at the Emmys!

Lady Gaga

Styled by Celebrity Hairstylist Frederic Aspiras, Lady Gaga’s glam, old-Hollywood look was inspired by the effortless elegance of Grace Kelly. “I wanted to create something soft and touchable,” explains Frederic. Here’s how to get it!

1. First, apply Matrix Style Link Volume Builder to towel-dried hair from roots to ends and comb through.

2. Next, add a small amount of Style Link Smooth Setter with a pump size amount of Style Link Gloss Booster and apply starting from the midlengths to ends. Comb through. Then, layer with an even spray of Style Link Turbo Dryer to speed up the drying process and tame frizz and flyaways.

3. Then, section the hair for blow-drying. Using a 2-inch round titanium brush, blow-dry under the hair, going back section-by-section.

4. After blow-drying is complete, use Style Link Shape Switcher to mold hair in place and create waves and shapes. “I chose to push the hair off the face and create waves that went back in order to maintain the softness and movement of the hair,” says name.

5. Finally, use Style Link Texture Builder to add hold and volume to this windswept look.

Kerry Washington

Long hair? Don’t care! A great faux bob can still be your client’s go-to look for an evening out. During last night’s Emmy red carpet, Kerry Washington had us all starry-eyed with her sequined dress, faux bob combo. Here’s one easy take on how you can get this look in your salon courtesy of Pure Artist Ruth Roche.

1. Apply Pureology Smooth Perfection Style Shaping Control Gel to damp hair. Dry smooth with a natural bristle round brush and create a deep side part.

2. Using 1 1/4-inch iron, set the hair with diagonal sections, moving away from the part towards the opposite side. Spray each section first with Colour Stylist Strengthening Control Zero Dulling Hairspray for added hold. Wind each section around the iron from roots to ends, and close the iron on the ends.

3. Create a horseshoe parting at the top and clip out of the way. Backcomb the underneath to create shape. Smooth the surface with a paddle brush, gather together at the back and create a roll into the nape and pin into place.

4. Apply a small amount of Colour Stylist Density Definer Medium Hold Crème Wax to fingers, and run through individual pieces on the top. Gather ends, tuck them under bob and pin into place. Allow a few tendrils to fall free.

5. Finish with Colour Stylist Supreme Control High Hold Hair Spray for colour-treated hair for lasting hold.
