We’re bringing you two quick tips on how to get your best blondes from two industry powerhouses: Kim Vō, dubbed by Vogue as “the best blonder in the biz,” and @bescene (aka Linh Phan), who’s quickly making a name for himself as the expert on lightening hard-to-lift Asian hair.

We caught Kim and Linh, along with Hollywood waves king Mustafa Avci, at the relaunch of Schwarzkopf Professional’s BLONDME line, hosted by Schwarzkopf Professional and Paramount Beauty in New York City’s Midtown. Not only does the popular Premium Lightener 9+ now have integrated bonding technology, but there’s an entire care line infused with bonding technology as well, making any blonde even more possible. Get the details here, and check out more pics from the event above, plus two blonding formulas that you can use on any client!

Two Blonding Tips

1. Tease Until You’re Pleased

The “teasy lights” or “foilayage” technique is super hot right now (Kim calls it “lacing”). It offers the balayage look combined with the power of foils for ultra-bright, super-blended highlights. Here’s Kim’s tip on knowing how much to tease: the more you tease, the lighter the section will be when you apply lightener. For platinum, tease a lot—for golden blonde, tease a little.

2. Avoid Bands of Color

Many blondes seek shadow roots for a more natural feel, so use this tip from Linh when creating one: If you add a shadow root on non-prelightened hair, you will eventually get a warm band when you attempt to break through that color later. Create less work for yourself later by prelightening her completely, then adding the shadow root.
