That’s the story behind this ultra-dimensional silver/violet color melt created by Hannah Smith (@hannahsmithstylist) of The Willows Salon & Spa in Saginaw, Mich. Hannah’s always loved muted, metallic tones, so when Kenra Professional released their Violet Metallics collection, she couldn’t wait to test them out! Here’s Hannah’s color formula and how-to for this gorgeous violet shadow color melt.

FORMULA STEPS

1. Prelighten using Formula A at the root and Formula B on the ends. Process for 45 minutes (or until color is similar to the inside of a banana, says Hannah).

 

2. Rinse, and shampoo with Aquage Moisture Shampoo. Towel-dry the hair and apply Kenra Porosity Equalizing Spray.

 

3. Apply Formula C to damp hair. Process for 5 minutes, and rinse in cold water. Then apply Kenra Porosity Equalizing Spray once more.

 

4. Section the hair into quadrants, and apply Formula D to the root area. Then use a coloring brush to melt the color into selective ends, using a sweeping motion outward from the scalp. Hannah used EmBee Meche to separate her sections and avoid bleeding. Process for 30 minutes.

 

5. Apply Formula E to the ends in 1-inch panels, color melting it into Formula D and ensuring full saturation.

 

6. Apply Formula F on the ends, alternating with Formula E and using the same color melting technique. Process for 30 minutes, rinse using cold water and apply Olaplex No.2. 

 

7. Shampoo and condition using Aquage Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner. ApplyIt’s a 10 Potion 10 Miracle Styling Potion, blow-dry and curl to create beachy waves. Finish with Kenra Professional Platinum Dry Texture Spray 6 and Kenra Professional Volume Spray 25.
