How to Fix a Balayage “Experiment”
You never know what’s going to walk into your salon—it could be a box dye disaster, a DIY ombré or, in Haley Ferreira’s case, a walking balayage experiment!
“My guest was upset due to a previous stylist overprocessing her hair and ‘experimenting’ with balayage,” says Haley. “There were bleed marks throughout her hair, stripiness and lots of warmth at the new growth.” Luckily Haley, a stylist at Cutting Loose Salon in Sarasota, Fla. and a National Educator for Paul Mitchell, knew just what to do. Color Formulas
Formula A: Paul Mitchell The Color XG 7PN + 20-volume developer
Formula B: Sunlights Balayage Lightener + 30-volume developer
Formula C: PM Shines 9BV + PM Shines Processing Liquid
Application
1. Apply Formula A to lift the base color and neutralize the warm tones. Comb the color through with a fine-tooth comb to blend and add dimension at the ends.
Pro tip: Haley kept a water bottle and towel handy to make sure the ends of the hair always stayed moist—which helped to prevent spottiness and kept those ends bright!
2. Rinse, and apply Paul Mitchell Rare Oil Treatment by MarulaOil. Process for 15 minutes.
3. Hand-paint pieces throughout using Formula B to add lightness around the face.
4. Rinse, and apply Formula C. Process for 25 minutes.
