How-To: 1 Iron, 3 Looks

close formula

It’s kind of amazing that you can create so many different looks depending on how you wrap your curl around your iron, right? Know how to get the results you—and your client—desire with this guide straight from ghd Ambassador (and BTC bridal guru!) Stephanie Brinkerhoff. And if you’re looking for a versatile iron, check out the ghd curve classic curl iron, which is Steph’s fave! Okay, on to the how-tos!

Look One: Vintage Glam

1. Beginning at the nape, curl 2-inch sections of hair by wrapping them around the barrel of the classic curl iron. Add a little twist on the hair as you curl to help form the wave.

2. Once all of the hair is wrapped around the barrel, you can release the clamp to help set it in place.

3. After you’ve curled the section, clip it in place to cool.

4. Repeat this process until the entire head is curled.

5. Once all of the hair is curled, release the clips and brush through the hair with the ghd oval dressing brush or the ghd tail comb, forming a soft wave.

Look Two: Flowing Curls

1. Beginning at the nape, curl 2-inch sections of hair by clamping the iron so the hair is smooth. Curl all the way through the ends, and curl each side away from the face toward the center back. Hold the curling iron in a vertical position to help add flow to the curls.

2. Curl the entire head this way.

3. Once the hair is curled, run your fingers through it to soften the curls.

Look Three: Messy Waves

1. Beginning at the nape, curl 2-inch sections of hair by wrapping it around the outside of the classic curl iron. Go all the way to the roots, but don’t curl the ends—leave them out so they stay straight.

2. Curl the entire head this way.

3. Once the hair is curled, run your fingers through the curls to soften them, then add some texturizing spray to give it a beachy look.

Watch how to achieve all three looks!
