This won’t mean much to non-Californians, but the big news of the 2016 International Salon and Spa Expo in Long Beach, Calif. was the rain. A full day of thunderous down-pouring. To the drought-weary folks of L.A, that was HUGE. But for everyone else, there was also plenty of noteworthy education and new products. Center and NAHA Stage artists included L’Anza’s Leah Freeman, Naeemah LaFond for Amika, Martin Parsons, Ted Gibson, CoCre8, Tracey Hughes, Crystofer Benson, Jake Thompson and Sassoon. Exhibitors shared demos and hands-on sessions on barbering, long hair styling, color and extensions. Attention, beauty entrepreneurs! Cuban’s coming back!


Beauty Pitch 2016
Last year, “Shark Tank’s” Mark Cuban and Paul Mitchell’s John Paul DeJoria made one beauty entrepreneur’s dream come true, selecting a company called 100% Pure to advise and mentor in the inaugural Beauty Pitch, designed to foster the entrepreneurial spirit in our industry. We sat in on a class with Uberliss’s Dr. Ali Sayed—the company’s leader and chemist—who shared the science behind the company’s new Uberliss Bond System. According to his tests, he said, in scanning electron microscope tests on double-bleached hair, the Uberliss Bond System led its closest competitor in fiber elasticity strength.
