Here’s What You May Have Missed at ISSE 2015

The 2015 International Salon and Spa Expo in Long Beach, CA has come to an end, but we’re still sifting through all the hot news we gathered during our time there. Among the highlights—Martino Cartier previewed his new hair collection, Sassoon’s Mark Hayes gave Vidal’s daughter a new ‘do and a young lady from Vancouver, WA walked away with the grand prize in the American Crew U.S. All-Star Challenge! Regardless of whether you were there or not, here are the high spots you may have missed!

 

 

 

Who: Martino Cartier

The scoop:  “It’s a dream come true!” says Martino Cartier of his new hair care collection.  The guy with the biggest personality and biggest heart in the hair biz revealed that he personally created each and every formula in his new collection, which he presented with his signature flair—with wardrobe created by Beyonce’s costume designer no less!  And in typical Martino style—10 percent of all net profits of all sales go to his Wigs & Wishes organization for kids and women with cancer.

Who: American Crew

Scoop:  Alyssa Brasket from Vancouver, WA picked up the grand prize in the American Crew U.S. All-Star Challenge. Her winning photo depicts what she feels are important new men’s trends—mainly side parts and overall longer lengths. What’s next? Alyssa heads to Rome in April to compete for the Global All-Star title!

Who: PRAVANA

The scoop:  It’s the “year of haircolor” at PRAVANA, as the company celebrates the unprecedented success of its ChromaSilk, VIVIDS and PASTELS portfolios. The team is also proud to announce that PRAVANA Founder and President Steve Goddard has been selected to receive the City of Hope 2015 Spirit of Life Award!  Congrats, Steve!

The scoop: We chatted with Amanda Patterson, Mindbody’s Director of Marketing, who revealed that the company is killing it with the Mindbody Connect mobile app. How much?  They’ve had more than 1.6 million downloads!  Why does this matter? Because customers are all about online booking—Amanda says that 40 million consumers now book appointments online!  Worth checking out as a way to make life easier for your busy clients!

The scoop: There’s a new creative energy surging at Rusk, and as a result, the company will have a whole new look in March. In the meantime, they’re cooking up creative new products in the lab!  Most recent launches? Working Spray, a super-dry mist with flexible hold, and Gloss Wax, the answer to a shiny finish with just a bit of hold.  Here’s a quick peek at more of what’s in store from Rusk!

The scoop: Sassoon International Creative Director Mark Hayes led the Sassoon team, which showcased the team’s signature graphic cuts and presented models from the new Nu-Pop collection. And, Mark performed a haircut on a very special model—Vidal’s daughter Eden Sassoon emerged with a sharp bob after Mark worked his magic! The night before, Eden had hosted a fundraiser for The Thirst Project, a charity dedicated to bringing safe drinking water to communities around the world.

The scoop: Two superstar educators drew crowds at Obliphica—but one had to leave early for a very special engagement. Celebrity Stylist Sacha Quarles (Sex in the City) shared techniques with the audience—and then took off to prep his client, Colin Farrell, for the SAG Awards in Hollywood. But luckily, legendary upstyle artist Martin Parsons took over, providing the crowd with his signature education, inspiration and hilarity!
