Goldwell GlobalZoom 2015: Gold for the U.S. and Inspiration for All
What happens when nearly 2,000 hairdressers from around the world gather in Las Vegas for three days of competition and education? Guests of the 2015 Goldwell GlobalZoom found out recently, when they converged on the Cosmopolitan Resort for the annual GlobalZoom competition, artist sessions with a group of world-class artists from Goldwell and KMS and several exciting surprises. There was also plenty of time for parties and fun because, duh—it was Vegas!
It was a great night for the host country, with two American contestants winning gold medals. Corinne Brown of Seattle took first place in the Partner Category, and Harley Lobasso of Florida won gold in the Creative Category. The competition began with photos entries inspired by the 2015 Traditional Rebels Collection, then the finalists from each participating country traveled to Las Vegas to compete in the live competition. Corinne and Harley will be part of the team that creates the 2017 collection, which will be unveiled next year in Sweden.
The 2016 Goldwell Hair Fashion Collection challenges all conventional thinking and demands a new point of view. The looks were interpreted live at the competition event, and featured the D!SRUPT! manifestos of strategically applied, intense color that creates the illusion of movement and unconventional marriages of shapes and disrupted textures. The day after the collection debut, the Color Zoom Creative Team conducted a technical session, breaking down some of the cuts, color designs and texture strategies from the collection.

The Artist Sessions
Guests were treated to a world-class line-up of artists in the popular Look & Learn formats. Benni Tognini and the team from Tognini’s Hair Skin Body in Brisbane, Australia is an award winning and internationally renowned team. They presented their signature, edgy style of cuts and color. The audience was thrilled by an up-close look at the work of British Hairdresser of the Year and Goldwell Global Ambassador Mark Leeson. Leeson and his team shared insights into the looks and approaches that have earned them a number of awards over the years, and have placed them at the top of the heap of artists in the UK. The KMS Global Style Council marked the brand’s 40th birthday with a lively presentation (complete with DJ) of “lifestyle” looks, and avant-garde artist and world champion Mario Krankl of Austria wrapped the program with a stunning display of creativity.
For the business-minded, Atlanta Salon Owner Jeff South shared his “upgrade” strategy, which, he claims, grew his service business by more than $100,000, simply by asking clients if they wanted an upgrade!
And of course, it wouldn’t be Global Zoom if there wasn’t a party. This year, there were several memorable bashes, held at some of Vegas’ hottest clubs.
Next year, Global Zoom moves to Scandinavia, where competitors will bring their A-games to the gorgeous city of Stockholm. Learn more about the Global Zoom competition at http://www.goldwell.us/color-zoom.
