8. Interview with Manic Panic Founders Tish and Snooky
& a Creative Color Session with @alix_maya

Most hairdressers remember the moment they bought their first Manic Panic haircolor. Every angsty, rebellious, hair-obsessed teen had to have it—the punky colors told the world that they were edgy, nonconforming and above all, super cool. Well, Manic Panic’s badass founders, Tish & Snooky, know exactly how those hairdressers felt. The sisters started as Blondie back-up singers before opening the country’s first punk boutique on St. Mark’s Place in NYC in 1977. The haircolor has punked up the heads of everyone—think Cyndi Lauper, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Cher, Lady Gaga and Jared Leto. Even high fashion has jumped on the unconventional color trend—Manic Panic has been spotted on the runways of the biggest names, like Louis Vuitton, Zac Posen, Rodarte, Oscar de la Renta and Hood by Air. And now, with the launch of Manic Panic Professional Color, the original punk rock haircolor is perfected for pro use, bringing hairdressers back to their colorful, radical roots!

Alix Clymer, better known as @alix_maya and the founder of @theunicorntribe to her 79,000 followers, is a six-time behindthechair.com  #ONESHOT Hair Awards finalist and winner of the 2016 #ONESHOT Rainbow Shot of the Year. Her motto is “Live out loud with no apologies,” which rings true with her followers and her role as the leader of her Age of the Artist movement. She approaches haircoloring from an artistic perspective, drawing on her experience in graffiti art and painting, and dedicates her journey to the “lost boys and girls of the art world.” She speaks in formulas, dreams in color and lives to create wearable art for those that sit in her chair.
